ARTS-Ecology 2010 Registration Form

Science and the arts continue to be the focus for this year’s programming, with an ecological twist. There are many ways to develop the link between ecology and the arts. Consider using recycled objects for art, photographing your environment digitally, creating art objects or musical instruments from items found in nature or recycled materials. Make the natural world the source of inspiration for all your artistic endeavors and see how your creativity is inspired by your surroundings!
Each program needs to be sure to have representation on the district committee’s monthly meetings. We could use your help as an officer too! This year, the meetings will take place on the second Wednesday of the month from 3:30 p.m. -5:00 p.m. They will be held at Genesee Intermediate School District’s Marion Crouse Instructional Center from September through January and at Special Services South (GISD’s Early Childhood Programs and Services) from February through June.
The following programs are planned for the 2009-2010 school year: Five festivals, VSAMI-GC art exhibit at the Flint Children’s Museum in March; two residencies and the continuation of the GISD supported visual art residency with Sam Huff at Marion Crouse Instructional Center.
The registration fee is $10.00 per classroom plus $1.00 per student materials fee. We have not raised the registration fee since VSAMI-GC’s inception. This money enables us to put more dollars into the festivals to pay our artists for their valuable contributions. Attached are an application and a list of staff responsibilities to keep handy. A schedule of planned activities, fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, t shirt order form and three calls for art are also attached. Please read them all, volunteer for some and participate as much as possible. Turn in your t shirt order for students when you submit your registration so that we can order the festival t shirts in a timely fashion. You may submit your registration online, but please be sure to pay your registration fees by check.

VSA ARTS STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES
- To notify building administrator of dates and timesof workshops/performances.
- To arrange appropriate space in the building and transportation when necessary. Transportation is the responsibility of the school district/program.
- To call and meet or talk with the visiting artist(s) prior to the activity to discuss curriculum and the needs of the group involved. VSA urges artists to provide a lesson plan ahead of time.
- To be an active participant and encourage all staff to participate as well. These experiences should be regarded as hands-on inservice for you too. When the artist leaves, you will have the tools to build on those artistic processes.
- To complete any pre- and post-experience questionnaires and assist the artists in filling out theirs, if needed.
- Call or email the program coordinator (Carolyn Vierkorn) should any questions or concerns arise.
- To record as much as possible on film and/or video tape remembering to include only those with MEDIA RELEASES.
- To volunteer time toward at least one event which benefits the organization, such as manning a booth at a local event, help at a recognition/awards reception, book fair or other fundraiser). Two hours of your time will make a difference.
